Photowalk 2010...

On July 24th, I participated in a local photowalk sponsored by Scott Kelby (Photoshop Guru). A photowalk is a social photography event where photographers get together to walk around, shoot photos, and generally just have a fun time with other photographers.

After the event, you can submit one photo from the ones you have taken and they choose a winner for each walk.   The above photo is my submission.  It is an artsy technique that I was playing with because I got kind of bored with taking pictures of flowers and trees.  I was standing underneath a tree canopy around 7PM when the light was soft.  I took a picture of the canopy, while giving the shutter speed the priority and shot it at a lower shutter speed so that the light that was shining through would make patterns on the capture.  I believe it is called light painting.  I typically photograph people, so nature was a change for me and I was struggling to find unique shots to take.

The winner from each walk is then viewed by Scott and a winner is chosen.  I was quite humbled and honored when I logged on our group page the other day to see this:

Very cool and I am very proud of myself!  You can check out the final top 10 photos that Scott chooses here on August 16th and if you want to vote for my light painting when people's choice opens on August 16th, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks!
